24-Norursodeoxycholic Acid, a C23 homologue of UDCA with shortened side chain of one less methylene than that of UDCA. Because of its relatively weak affinity with Taurocholic acid and glycine, it is easily reabsorbed by bile duct cells into hepatic sinuses and hepatocytes to promote the excretion of bile duct cells.

24-Norursodeoxycholic acid has the properties of effectively anti-cholestasis, anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrosis. It is one of a special drug substances, being used for treatment of cholestatic liver disease, and having been achieved initial results in clinical trials of primary sclerosing cholangitis.
